Advice on a boyfriend breakup
Did you just break up with your boyfriend? Are you wondering if this is truly over? Do you feel lost without him? Here is some advice when trying to deal with a boyfriend breakup.
First of all figure out if the relationship is really over. Have you really moved on? If he is the subject of your conversation every day chances are you have not moved on. Do you really want to move on? Only you can really know this about yourself and it takes some deep reflection in order to figure this out.
But, if you are ready to move on, there are a number of steps you can take to reach closure. Closure is the process where you recognize that the relationship is over and you start to heal.
Perhaps the first thing you should do is communicate your hurt. There are several ways to do this:
• Talk to friends and family who are truly empathetic and can help you work through your feelings. A true friend will do this, but many of your so called friends won’t be up to the challenge.
• Go into short term therapy so you can work through your feelings with a dispassionate third party
• Write down your feelings in a journal, in poetry, or in music. This is an inexpensive way to express yourself and doesn’t require anyone else to participate.
Once you have reached the point where you believe you can truly move on then get rid of everything that reminds you of him. You really need to move on here. If something has value then it is important that you give that back to your boyfriend. However, there are just some nick knacks that have no value and you can feel free to just toss those out.
The next step is to figure out what to do with the rest of your life without this other person in it. Perhaps there are something’s you have been neglecting. If you were in abusive relationship it is highly likely that you may have gained weight, because you were eating your emotions. Why not join a gym and lose those extra pounds so that you can feel and look better about yourself? Not only will this get you into a more positive social environment but you may end up meeting someone new.
One of the ways you will know that you are over your ex is that you will start to develop feelings for a new guy. Maybe these will be reciprocated. Eventually, you will find a new man and form a new relationship. That will be when you know you have really moved on. The boyfriend break up won’t be so serious any more.
